AnkiApp App Reviews

Awesome improvements!

The new update brought some very handle improvements. Now it is easy, to change the textsize, underline things or lighten it up! I’m very happy with it. For the university or school it is a very useful app. Therofore you are able to learn on all of you devices and everywhere. It is worth it! There is just one thing. If you could import Cards from different programms like „Anki online“, I would give 5 stars. Btw it is cheaper now!

recommendable

Very nice app.

Good, but not for the price

This app is not worth the price tag. It functions, but the coding relating to user input is clumsy; I cannot easily move text to a new line, make edits to text, etc. All the bells and whistles do not make up for the fact that the most basic function of the app does not work fluidly on OS X Yosemite 10.9

Useless

The information on the cards does not even appear when in Review mode. Absolutely useless.

no copy and paste???

I purchased this to make flashcards with information from documents and my ebook. unfortunately I cant even copy and paste anything on to these flash cards! I’ve tried copy and pasting from word docs, internet, ebook, nothing works! This is a standard feature thats expected from all flash card apps I’ve used and I really dont have the time to be typing up all my flash cards. After I found this out I didnt bother to proceed with using the app so I really cant review anything else about it.

Learning language with AnkiApp

AnkiApp Flashcards is a great app for learning languages. It is easy to load flashcard decks. The latest version of the app gives clear, easy to read feedback that motivates me to keep reviewing to improve my performance. I can concentrate on studying vocabulary for an hour or take a brief work break to quickly flip through one deck. It is very convenient to use AnkiApp on multiple platforms - I can learn on my laptop and my iPhone.

good with my iPad

It’s quicker to put cards in on my computer.

Basic scenarios work, everything else is very buggy

While using a basic front/back layout works well and it is easy, everything else is incredibly buggy. I found no less than 5 bugs.

rich text is terrible

this is basically a browser window with the web version running except the rich text doesnt work. if you write something while ediiting a card and then try to click back to an earlier point it forwards the cursor to the end of the line ive also hit the delete key and the whole page has gone to the last page (like the website it is) losing all unsaved edits to my card. i have to click save three different times during the process of creating a card and if i dont rememebr the final one all progress is lost. for 15 dollars this is a terrible purchase : ...aaaand after deciding i spent the money might as well try to use it i uploaded over 100 cards with images on the back. all of the images are now broken links when i try to actually test myself with them. completely useless

Great App, not to be confused with AnkiWeb

The app is a fantastic way to use flashcards and integrate multimedia into them. One bit of a problem that took me weeks to figure out, there is a similar App that is called Anki, with a blue star. this app involves a free web application and apps for Mac and devices. It is not affiliated with Ankiapp flashcards. Make sure you are using this Ankiapp across your devices.

Better and Better with each update

An elegantly simple and useful app that works on my iPhone, iPad, and Macbook pro. Each update makes the app more fluid and robust. It is the best memory enhancing flashcard app I have ever used.

I wish I bought this first

This is so much better than Mental Case it’s not even funny. No issues with syncing, almost everything makes sense. I had some ideas for how to improve the app, though. Hopefully the developer is reading this. Here are my ideas: - Easier way to jump to next card while editing. You have to go back then select a new one. It’s very manual. - Autoplay (similar to Mango Languages, where you can just hit the Play button and listen to audio associated with card… great way to learn!) - Jump to edit from review mode. It’d be much quicker than going back to Cards mode and trying to find the card you saw in Review mode in order to edit it. - Ability to add videos to cards. - Ability to sell decks you’ve made would be awesome! I’m spending a lot of time making great decks that people would love to use, and it’d be nice to get some compensation from it. - Ability to reset scoring for a card or deck. - Ability to make window full-screen (I guess we have the website, but I’d like to be able to make the Mac app full screen). That’s about it for now.

Unimpressed...

There are several issues I have with this app that makes it not worth while for me: (1) There are several buttons which do nothing but bring up blank windows: News, Privacy Policy, and Terms and Conditions. This makes the app seem like it’s unfinished and it’s insulting to charge $9.99 for an app that doesn’t even seem finished! (2) There are several buttons that show on the sidebar all the time: News, Help, Settings, and Profile. These don’t need to be shown all the time and overcomplicate the interface by being there when we rarely need them. Hiding the sidebar hides these, but also hides the buttons used to navigate decks — buttons which are often used and needed. These should be separated into different areas so we’re only shown what we need to see. As-is, the interface is very crowded — which is less productive and not very nice to look at. (3) The Layout area should really be WYSIWYG instead of HTML/CSS. I know HTML/CSS and while I don’t have an issue using it, it’s annoying to be writing markup when I’m making flashcards. I appreciate that, upon my comments that the Layout article on their website didn’t include much information, they promptly updated it — I was happy with that. However, there are many people that don’t use HTML/CSS and don’t want to. This creates issues for them when using the app, that just shouldn’t be there. Speaking for myself, I’d rather just use WYSIWYG controls — it feels like they belong in an app more than markup. (4) Compared to another Anki app (which, as I understand is both the original and made by another company), this app lacks the ability to have "multi-sided” cards. Now, this may sound like an odd feature, but let me explain. Right now, you have “front” and “back” so you can have a term on one side, its definition on the other or maybe a picture on one side, a word on the other… Having multi-sided cards would allow you to have more than just two pieces of information, and be tested with any two you want. So, if you’re learning Chinese, you can have: (a) the Chinese character, (b) the pronunciation, and (c) the English translation…then, you could test any which way you want — a —> b, b —> a, c —> a, etc. This gives more flexibility and more functionality. As-is, the app falls short because in order to have this functionality, I’d have to create several decks that repeat information. It would be a lot better with that multi-sided deck option. Overall, given the very basic functionality of the app and its shortcomings, I really feel like it’s not worth $9.99. I’ve already requested a refund from the Apple Store. After some work fixing the broken buttons, maybe some reorganizing of things to make the interface cleaner, and definitely some features added, I’d pay $9.99 for this app. However, as-is, it’s very overpriced for what’s being offered. There are other apps out there that accomplish the same, if not better, for a much smaller price tag. I’d be happy to see improvements on this app because I think it has potential. However, as of now, it’s unrealized potential, and it doesn’t feel fair to charge $9.99 for something that doesn’t even feel finished yet.

nice formatting features

It gives a lot of ways to color and format my cards. I like making good-looking cards because I study about 50 a day (mostly on the iPhone version of the app).

Anki, meet Anki

So, most Flash card aficionados will be aware of the fact that there is another app — a long time champion of its genre — called Anki. It is praised as the king of SRS, and, of course, in a fit of educational wonder, I started in earnest to begin the download of Anki. I furiously googled the words, "anki", and mistakenly stumbled upon this treasure. In the past I’ve disliked Anki, so instead of using Anki, and I decided to try this app, which is also called Anki. So far, I’m really enjoying the interface which is better in comparison, and I’m enjoying the dark theme, which has the added benifit of increased battery life due to less luminary output. If you’ve used Anki before in the past (the other Anki), give this app a try, because it is defintely well built and stable, and it has two databases from which it pulls flashcards.

easy to make cards

Keeps getting better! Use this on my Mac to create cards for use with the iPhone app when I’m on the go.

Fantastic App!

I love studying with this app! It’s perfect for learning new vocabulary :)

Don’t download this app.

I downloaded this app thinking it was a better version of anki web…not the case at all. They allow you to transfer all of your decks from anki web, but then if you make a new deck on this app., you can’t transfer it back over to anki web. So I created about 100 flashcards on this app, and once I realized that it was completely different then anki web, I couldn’t transfer them over. The reason I enjoy the anki web is because of the fact that you can choose how often the cards pull up. For example, if you see a card and have no idea what it is, you can set the deck so that it will pop up about 1 minute later. This app has no feature similar to this. All it does is grade you at the end based on how hard you said that cards were. Completely different features. Also, when creating cards on this app., nothing seems to work properly. Say for example you want to create bold text. You can use the keyboard shortcut command B for bold, but then if you want to turn the bold off, you have to click the bold button on the app taskbar. Small issue, but it gets annoying real quick. Trust me and just stick with the web based version of anki.

They changed it for the worst

The new app is impossible to understand. Way to ruin a good thing. I got a new computer and was trying to install the application, and this app is completely differnet from Anki the good verison. I couldn’t find where to import decks or anything.

Just what I needed to learn faces and names

Using as a tool to learn names and faces. Works fantastic. The rich text cards are great. Quick to create and update. I can share among devices and with others. The cloud sync pulls down the changes to all the devices. App is stable. Rating 4 stars because there are a couple of broken parts: 1) tags are forced upper case when you enter as you edit the card, but forced lower case when you add to an existing card. It seems impossible to create consistent tags. 2) Support site can’t be opened.
